Anne Evans brooch

Narrative

Brenda Wells tells that Anne Evans, latterly Williams, was presented with this brooch by the Lord Leiutenant of Brecknockshire for services supporting Belgian refugees in WWI in Merthyr Tydfil. Anne had what may have been the first sewing machine in south Wales, and made clothes for the refugees. Two brooches were awarded, but we don't know who had the other. We don't know the date, but it must have been around the end of WWI.

EJW searched the Merthyr Express for any mention in jan-jun 1916 without success.
