I am writing you again to give you an exsplanation of the position of
what we are in we arrived here from woolwich at 8.30PM Tuesday after a
long ride and I am in billits for the whole time I am here this person
is very nice and I get very good food just like being at home for that
but apart from that I prefer my own home I would give all I have got to
get back with you my darling we start at 9 oclock in the morning till 12
oclock and then from 2 oclock till four and then finished get up at 6.45 I
have a nice bed and feel well My Dear we went on parade this morning and
got very cold we were asked if we enlisted as Saddlers and we said yes and
then they wanted to know if we were all A1 men we exspect we shall still
get our 8/= and after that we got 1 hours foot drill the N.C.O here are
very nice and officers speak to us like gentlemen but at the same time I
prefer to be at woolwich I have been issued out today with full
equipment water Bottle Hatchet and everything so it seems that we a
going overseas when trained I am in the 35th Reserve Training Battalion
of the Dorset Rigimint Infantry we were told to keep our Bits on our arm
we have got to be fully trained but I beleave we will go to our trades
in Infantry Regiments well my dear wife I want you for me to go as soon
as you can and have your photo taken with Cyril and Hayden I dont exspect I
shall see you this side of Christmas so dont exspect me or think of it I
am over 200 miles from you and would cost me 16/= but apart from that
they wont let me come this place of course you know is a seaside place write
facing the English Channel or else to Cornwell the weather her is very
settled & dry there are no Barracks only houses for the Soldiers the
inhabitance her are small only 12,000 in all well my dear I hope to god
that this war will end befor I go out I wish you wont worry over me and
look after your self well and the Children I cannot write any more to
you at present trusting you will keep up I now close wishing myself a speedy return
