Hi Emrys
I think it was 1956. the BCC were filming in Santa’s grotto in (I think) Selfridges. My father was told by a friend that footage of me had been included in the broadcast, so he wrote to the BBC saying “We do not possess a set , but my daughter’s grandparents would have welcomed the opportunity of seeing one of their only 2 grandchildren on television” . This wasn’t entirely true. He did have a set, but didn’t have a licence for it! The BBC replied saying they hadn’t been able to give any advance notice of what would be included in the programme and sent him the still by way of apology. My father had an enormous number printed which he hand coloured and sent out to family members as calendars, so I’m surprised you haven’t got one in your collection already.
Everything is fine here too. I’ve just come back from a week in Thüringen with Dominic (encouraging practice for next summer’s GCSE German)
