Event Note
This birthdate is taken from some family tree notes made by Dennis Sennitt in maybe 1982. The year 1891 was added after the date 14 feb. The notes were about the Sennitt family, not the Williams ones. Same for the date of death, 1950 in Dennis's records.
Aha! I've since found a BMD death entry that says he died in 1953 aged 62, which about matches the rumours. |

Narrative
Stephen Lucy was a decorated WWI officer (although I can't find him online) who then became an accountant in Aberdare.
According to Brenda Sennit, 15 Jan 2009
Narrative
Stephen Lucy was soldier number 8077 in the 1st East Kent regiment according to the medal index cards.
He was awarded the DCM. (volume 23.6, page 1915, it says).
Discharged Unfit 19 Jul 1916.
Brenda Sennitt says that he was shot in the elbow.
Narrative
Stephen Lucy's DCM was announced (with many others) in the London Gazette
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/29202/supplements/6129
Supplement to the London gazette, 23 (or 22) June 1915, page 6134
He was 8077 Lance Corporal S. Lucy, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment
That will be a King's birthday collection, rather than an individual one, so probably no more was published.
"LG" Vol23.6 page 1915 on the index card shows the announcement, but I can't understand that reference.
LG is the London Gazette.

Narrative
Emrys Williams visited Brenda Sennitt at her home on 13 Aug 2011, and she told him:
On Steven Lucy:
Brenda Sennitt doesn't know the name of Steve Lucy's parents. They came from Ireland and moved to Merthyr for work. Brenda thinks Steven was botn in Merthyr. Steven's father died when Steven was young. Steven's mother was an alcoholic. Steven was, effectively, taken into care. He was sent ot a home in Aberdare. There, he went to a catholic school run by nuns.
On Steven's discharge from the army, he was given a civic welcome in Merthyr, and a council job was waiting for him. He took correspondence courses to get his accounting qualification.
Steven taught music, learnt in the army, to boys in his old school in Aberdare. Brenda thinks he played the oboe.
On Alex:
Alex got a field promotion, and a batman came with it. He was a rogue who was very effective. He provided a replacement for Alex's lost gun, no questions asked!
On Owen's children:
Tomos is in his fourth year of training to be a doctor at Bristol.
Hannah has been accepted to study medecine at Bristol, conditional on A Level results.
