Dear Margaret,
Some while back, I sent snailmail to Keith son-of-Haydn. He hadn't replied and I thought I must have sent it to the wrong place, or that he was being grumpy, but no, he phoned this morning! He had delayed replying until he had spoken with his mother, Doris. He is at
keithwilliams43@hotmail.co.uk
I hope.
He says that Doris is <private>. I'll try to speak to her. She's the last living spouse of a Williams sibling. Haydn himself was the last sibling to die.
Keith says that it's definitely Haydn on the floor in the Gwladys&Charlie party photo, and he's sure that the eyebrow behind Gwladys belonged to Ivor. So we have the complete list, I think:
Colin Wells, Peter Wells, Haydn, Marjorie, Christine, DK (dark suit cut off)
DK (mostly cut off), Peg, May, Jimmy, Gwladys, Charlie, Brenda Lucy, Brenda Wells,
Doris, Brenda Sennitt, Carol, Jean Unwin, Ivor, Aneurin (Behind Brenda Lucy), Margaret Wells, LCWilliams
Dennis Sennitt, Linda Skarsten, Keith, David, John Smith, Vera, Johnny Unwin, David Wells, EJWilliams, Chris
Keith said that Peg told him that John Smith was "A real man's man and a real lady's man as well." Keith met John in Haverhill after Peg died and he was in a relationship with another woman. Do you know when Peg died? Even vaguely?
Keith said that John would never go into churches. At weddings, he'd go to the pub during the service. (I know how he feels!) He made wedding cakes, and made the cake for Keith and Linda's wedding. Keith says he will look for the photos from his engagement party, which had a wide selection of Williamses. He'll also raid Doris's albums on his next visit (it's 210 miles each way), Doris being unable to see them at all.
Ian is Keith's middle child, and was in a car accident five and a half years ago. Keith was calling from Putney, where Ian was in a specialist neurological hospital. I guess it's http://www.rhn.org.uk/. I'm not clear whether that was as an inpatient, outpatient or for long term care. Keith says that Ian will never fully recover. Ian was born 20 Jan 1975.
Eldest child: Neil, born 9 July 73, who has children Oliver and twins Francesca and Jessica. Their mother is Joanne (I don't know the surname) but Keith said that they hadn't seen her for some time - meaning they were separated? I wish I was better at smalltalk!
Youngest child: Karen, born 20 sep 77. She has children with (but is not married to) Robert Tucker. Phoebe Tucker, 4 in April, and twins Chloe and Daisy, 1.
I've not looked in detail but ancestry does find three williams children with mother Skarsten. So that's hot on the trail.
I'm going to put together another family tree and send it back to Keith by email and see what he says.
Keith muttered something about "carrying on the male line", and I didn't twig at the time, but he may have been referring to John Thomas Williams's Y chromosome. That's only carried by men and inherited father-to-son. So, in the first generation, John, Ivor, Dad, Aneurin, Haydn, Owen, Hywel and Dougie had it. In the second generation, I, Keith and Chris have it. I have no children (and won't, I've had a vasectomy!) and Chris doesn't look like having any. So in the 3rd generation, only Keith's children Neil and Ian carry it, and Keith says that Ian will have no children. So the 4th-generation Oliver is the only hope for JTW's Y chromosome to survive, which is pretty astonishing considering the number of descendants there are. (Hang on, I need to think about that, there are some dodgy statistics there!)
