Hi EmrysGreat to hear from you, glad you found the web site of value, yes please help yourself to any images, I will circulate all on my list with your e-mail, perhaps we may gain more data.I have trawled the site looking for any references to your father, these are below afraid not in chronological sequence, as follows:- I was a member of the PT team. It is great to see the photograph and I am second from the left in the back row. (See more..)The film was shot, if I remember correctly, in the gymnasium of the London University and it was for the 'Keep Britain Fit Campaign'.I recall that the Minister of Health was there with a gentleman who I thought was the Minister of Education who, according to Vic, is the President of the Board of Education.I recall clearly that one was tall and the other short.Mr. Williams took us to other a few other venues but these are not recalled. One thing that I remember clearly is that when changing into our kit prior to any demonstration we always were given a large jar of Brylcreem (about the size of a 7-lb sweet jar) which was slapped on by the handful! The kit, as can be seen in the photograph was minimal being just slippers and shorts. The shorts were also minimal coming in two sizes, having eight or ten inch outside legs. They got commented on, as there were some big lads in the team. The Group consisted of four teams of eight boys: a demonstration was timed to last thirty minutes. However, for the film Mr. Williams had to reduce this to eleven minutes. No doubt the filmmakers got their scissors out. I expect the time is remembered, as it was most important that everyone concentrated and made no mistakes in the one take.I have just emailed Gaumont British today enquiring if they have by chance got a copy of film and will advise the outcome. Some of the staff already there was in 1929 were Messrs Mason, Turner, Knyston, Hodgkinson, Woods, Stocker and Jack White and Brown. The first appointment made by Mr. Ling was Stanley Raine, in charge of Science, who soon got his Doctorate, known as Dr. Raine officially but 'Bill Raine' to his colleagues. A brilliant up and coming PE specialist Williams followed him. I have a photo of his boys demonstrating to some high ups, including the Duke of York, later King George VI. Others I remember were Cossam and R Beasley (Carpentry), Halliday and Always (French) Protheroe (Science) H. Taylor, Hawkes (Geography) Broadhurst (Art). At that time the school was occupying Surrey Lane School. Top Floor - Boys: Middle Floor - Girls; Ground Floor - Infants, but a new purpose built Central School with modern facilities was being built in Culvert Road, due to be opened in 1940! Extracts from the 1938 edition of BCS "The Torch."Since our last issue we have lost the services of two valuable colleagues.Mr. R. J. Wood, M.Sc., has been appointed to the Head-mastership of Ethelburga Street School. We regret his leaving and shall miss his work in school and in connection with swimming. He definitely put Battersea Central "on the map" as far as swimming is concerned. He re-organised our Geography work and organised our first School Camp.Thank you Mr. Wood!Mr. R. G. Broadhurst, who gained the Art Teacher's Diploma after joining our staff, has gained early recognition of his work. He was promoted to Wilson's Grammar School. We have just heard that after a year's work at Wilson's, Mr. Broadhurst has been appointed to the Bath School of Art.Congratulations Mr. Broadhurst!Mr. L. R. Hawkes, B.A., has been appointed Geography Master, to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Wood's promotion. Mr. Hawkes has already proved himself to be a popular master and colleague. His "concerts" at Camp will be remembered by all. Since coming to us, Mr. Hawkes has been awarded the second degree of Master of Arts at London University. We tender him our heartiest congratulations.Mr. L. C. Williams has been granted a year's leave of absence to attend an advanced PT Course at The Carnegie College, Leeds. We miss him and shall welcome his return.RegardsCliff DouthwaiteHawkley 1939 Webmasterhttp://hawkley1939.emc.org.uk

Vic Myers write "I have a feeling that this was a small team from the main PT squad that performed maybe at the Christmas Concert in December 1936 or it may have been the team that appear at the Congress of Physical Medicine when the Duke of York attended. I am not sure which - do you remember. You will remember the lad in the centre in the white shirt - Hopkins, whom we called "Hoppy" - he had a club foot and couldn't take part in box work, etc., but Mr. Williams included him as the one who helped us of the Horse and Box. Also the young lad centre sitting was Clements who was in the Alpha class below our year , he lived a few doors away from me."
