Narrative
Esther is Hugh's grandchild, but whose child? In fact, Esther (born 1870) is the child of Esther Price (born about 1853). Esther Price, the mother, made a mark on her daughter's birth certificate - she couldn't write her name. She didn't mention a father. She was maybe 16 or 17 when her daughter was born.
At the 1871 census, Esther the mother has disappeared, but Esther the daughter is still living with Hugh and Ann Price. There's no likely death or marriage listed in BMD for her, so where she was is a mystery.
