Dear Emrys
Many thanks for the attached, I have now had a chance to gather my thoughts !
Thanks for pointing out that our aunt May was the eldest. I am sure you are correct that she married in 1917, not 1916, because I can remember going to her Golden Wedding in Felixstowe in 1967 !
I see I was wrong that Llewella had died in childbirth, but I still think that she became estranged from the rest of the family. Probably the truth will never be known now.
You were right in your memories of Dalebury Road. When in London in 1999 I took mum back to the house, which she had last seen in 1969, and the current owners were kind enough to show us around ! They were converting it back into one large home, the dilapidated greenhouses had gone and the largest part of the garden was scheduled for development. Unfortunately mum had not retained any of it, or any rights, covenants etc !
Now the good news. Although I have never seen the photo of the beach party before, I am certain that the young couple are Hywel and Fran. Probably not taken during wartime, and don’t think it was after they were married, so feel that it dates from 1936 or 1937.
I am much more certain about the photo “unknown christening”, as it was my christening on 27 June 1954 at St John’s Church, West Ashton, near Trowbridge ! To the right of the photo stands my maternal grandmother, Florence Louisa Neale (1884 – 1960 ), I am being held by her elder daughter Kay Neale ( 1909 – 2000 ) while my mother looks on. Apart from you, and your parents, I do not have the faintest idea who the other people are !
Please feel free to share this with anyone else who is researching.
Regards
Chris
