Thomas Watkins was able to sign his name on the certificate, but Margaret Price could not.

The witnesses were William Price (who signed) and Ann Cattrick (who made a mark). Maybe William was Margaret's borther, about 7 years older than Margaret. Who was Ann?

The certificate shows that Thomas Watkins's father was also called Thomas Watkins.

We definitely know that Thomas Watkins married Margaret Price because the mother's maiden name is given on Annie's and Aneurin Edgar's birth certificates.

But there were lots of Thomas Watkinses marrying Margarets. This is the only on in 1871-1881 which matches a name of a Margaret from Merthyr Cynog. AND that would be around the right time to make Annie Watkins's birth legitimate.

Annie, first child, arrived in June, and the marriage was in the previous december.

The 1911 census says that Margaret spoke both English and Welsh (and she'd taught her son Aneurin Edgar Welsh too) and that she'd been married 38 years, had born 7 children alive, of whom 5 were still living and 2 had died. We only know 5 names and do not know which children had died. That puts her marraige date between 1 Apr 1872 and 31 Mar 1873, and we have a marraige certificate for Dec 1872, so it all hangs together.
