Williams, Blodwen Llewela 1

Birth Name Williams, Blodwen Llewela 2

The censuses give her name as "Llewella", but the birth record is "Llewela". The former is ten times as common as the latter on the web.
The family apparenetly called her "Blodwen" (with an E, not a Y) or "Wella".

Birth Name Williams, Blodwen Llewella

Wella's birth certificate says "Blodwen Llewela", but many in the family spelt it Llewella, and both versions were given at her death. Google says that "Llewella" outnumbers "Llewela" by ten to one. She signed "Llewella" on her marriage certificate.

Also Known As Buxton, Wella

Margaret Wells says that Llewella was always called Blodwen or Wella.

  Narrative

Remarkably short gestation for Walter Cyril Buxton! Actually, Wella was the first of the Williams siblings to marry, by a long way. She was 19 years old at the wedding and was quite a few months pregnant. Was she hiding a bump with the flowers in the wedding photo?

Some family members think that Wella became estranged from the rest of the family, while other family members knew her as close. Was all this caused by her mildly scandalous wedding? In fact, about half of the brides in this family tree seem to be pregnant at the wedding!

Narrative

Margaret Wells says that Llewella was always called Blodwen or Wella.

Narrative

Brenda says that Llewella went to live back in Wales, becoming separated from most of the family. This is clearly wrong, but it's firmly what Brenda Sennit believed.

Narrative

Chris Williams says
Llewella was the oldest of the 13 children and died young and unmarried, probably in childbirth, which is why she was never mentioned !

Which clearly isn't true, so why the rumours about her?

It is true that she was living in Hackney in 1913, aged 19, when she married Walter, a Hackney lad, and had Walter Cyril significantly less than nine months later. Would she have been ostracised for "having" to get married? But clearly she was friends with May and Peggy and Gwladys (the eldest set) decades later.

Ah... she would have been the first of all these Williams kids to marry, by quite a way (May next in 1917) and she married in a hurry and pregnant. Maybe they worried that would happen to all of them?

Narrative

Mike Buxton says:
"Bit more about Wella, she was apparently brought up by Edgar and Beaty Watkins until she was 14 believing they were her parents."

And I've [EJWilliams] heard a similar story about May, too. But why? Maybe Annie really wasn't married! She was young, but not too young. And she was living a married life in her parents' home. And both May and Wella were present in the house in Hackney in 1901, way before Wella was 14. This is really weird.

Was Gwladys brought up by Edgar? Margaret Wells says she doesn't think so.

When did AEWatkins marry Beatty? AEWatkins was born in 1883, so was only 10 years older than Wella. It doesn't make sense that he'd raise her.
